Jammu, Feb 01: In a spectacular display of youth vitality and sporting spirit, the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) successfully organized the inaugural Mini Marathon 1.0 – Run with the Rising Sun from the University of Jammu. The event saw overwhelming participation from athletes across the Union Territory of J&K.

Anuradha Gupta, Director General of Youth Services & Sports, set the tone with her welcome address, outlining the event’s inspiring theme. She emphasized the core values of fitness, discipline, and positive youth engagement, extending her congratulations to all participants for embracing a healthy and active lifestyle.

The marathon featured three competitive categories – 3 KM, 5 KM, and 10 KM – with routes winding through the historic ‘City of Temples’ and all culminating at the Jammu University finish line. The event was formally flagged off by Satish Sharma, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, who inspired the gathered athletes with motivating words, bolstering their morale and enthusiasm.

A visible example of the growing sports culture in the UT, the event registered a total of 1000 male and female athletes from across J&K. The marathon vividly reflected a spirit of unity, sportsmanship, and communal fitness.

In a move to celebrate every participant, all athletes were awarded commemorative participation medals. Position holders in each distance category, further segregated for boys and girls, received special medals of honor. Adding a personal touch of appreciation, Satish Sharma, Minister for Sports, instantaneously awarded medals to all category toppers from his own resources, applauding their exceptional performances.

The event’s smooth and secure execution was ensured under the close supervision of Dr. Ajay Sharma, SP South, who personally monitored all security and logistical arrangements. The atmosphere was further energized by the presence and encouragement of various social media influencers, whose engagement proved highly motivational for the participants.

Exemplifying a commitment to holistic care, the Directorate provided adequate refreshments and a hygienic breakfast for all athletes and dignitaries post-event.

Mini Marathon 1.0 stands as a significant milestone in the Directorate’s mission to promote mass participation, fitness, and discipline through sports. The event’s seamless success was driven by the exemplary leadership of Anuradha Gupta, Director General of Youth Services & Sports, who personally spearheaded and oversaw all proceedings.
