What was meant to be a historic chapter in Kashmir’s cricketing rise has now turned into a tale of disappointment and controversy.

The Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), once advertised as a grand sporting spectacle featuring international stars like Chris Gayle, Jesse Ryder, and others, along with promising local talent from the Valley, has crumbled under the weight of mismanagement and alleged fraud.

Initially planned to be held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, the IHPL promised to put Kashmir on the global cricketing map. The league’s announcement had created a wave of excitement, international players arriving, young Kashmiri cricketers getting a platform, and investors pouring in funds with the hope of seeing the region shine through sports.

However, what unfolded was far from the dream. The organisers fled from Srinagar during the night without informing anyone which created shockwaves among the participants of the tournament.

Reports suggest that, hotel bills went unpaid, and players were not paid which they were promised earlier. Those who had trusted the organisers are now left asking one burning question. Who will compensate for the losses and the damage done to Kashmir’s cricketing reputation?

The incident has left a bitter taste in the mouths of cricket lovers. For a place where passion for cricket runs deep despite limited infrastructure and opportunities, such controversies strike hard. Many now fear that this fiasco will make sponsors and investors hesitant to support future cricketing ventures in Kashmir.

More than just a failed event, the IHPL stands as a warning, that grand promises without integrity can destroy both dreams and reputations. What was supposed to bring pride to the Valley has, sadly, become a stain on the image of Kashmir cricket.
