U-17 J&K handball team may miss participation in National School Championship

Srinagar, Jan 03: With the uncertainty hovering over Jammu and Kashmir’s Handball game team, the under-17 team may not be able to participate in the National School championship that will commence from 12th to 16ty January 2019.
The 16 member team has been invited by the School Education Department, Telangana state to participate in the 64th National School Games Handball Championship 2018-19.
The team is directed to report Siddipet, Telangana on 11th January, 2019 for which 6th January has been announced as the last date of online submission for the participation in the championship.
Saqib Bashir, a player of the team said, “the entire team visited the Jammu and Kashmir’s Sports department where the Director said the department cannot afford to send the team to Telanagana for the participation citing lack of funds”
Faisal, another player of the team said: “We are waiting for the decision to be made by the sports department. We don’t want to miss such event as it is very important for our careers. We have worked very hard to reach to this level”
With no positive response from the sports department, the team immediately approached advisor to J&K governor K.K Sharma’s office’s who suggested them to contact the sports department back as he cannot do anything.
The team later protested in the press colony here demanding the sports council to find a way out for the team to participate in the championship.
Director of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Saleem Ur Rehman said: ” The department has registered the team and will ensure the team participates in the tour and explores all the options for the participation in Telangana’s Championship”
